Winter Springs FL Tax Preparation for Families, Homeowners

Updated September 26, 2026

For a household in Winter Springs, taxes come in two flavors: the income tax return you file with the IRS, and the property tax bill you pay in Seminole County. Zero Fuss Taxes prepares the return remotely and points you to the right county office for the rest.

Two tax jobs, one household

Winter Springs is a neighbor of Longwood, where our office is at 2941 W State Rd 434, Suite 100. Households here usually juggle the same pair of tax tasks. There is the federal return, which is due in the spring. And there is the property tax bill, which arrives in the fall.

We prepare the first one. The second is handled by county offices, and knowing its rhythm keeps surprises small.

The family return

The family return price begins at $299. That number is meant for households with dependents and more paperwork than a single W-2. If your household has one earner, two earners, or two earners with a side business, tell us at the start so the quote is accurate.

We will ask about children, childcare, health coverage forms, and anything that changed during the year, such as a new job, a move, or a marriage. Big life changes are the moments when a preparer earns their fee.

Your Florida property tax calendar

Florida law sets a discount for paying property tax early: 4 percent in November, 3 percent in December, 2 percent in January and 1 percent in February. Payments made after that carry no discount. Orange County's tax collector, for example, publishes bills going out by November 1, due by March 31, delinquent April 1. Check your own Seminole County bill for its exact dates.

If you own and live in your Winter Springs home, homestead is the exemption to know. The Seminole County Property Appraiser accepts regular filing from January 1 through March 1. Pre-filing for the next tax year runs from March 2 through December 31. Its phone line for exemption questions is 407-665-7512.

Getting your return done without a sitter

Parents know the problem with appointments. Someone is sick, or school lets out early. Our process is designed to be done in fifteen-minute pieces. Answer the intake online, snap photos of forms after the kids are in bed, and review the draft on your phone.

Bring for a family return

  • Social Security numbers and birth dates for every person on the return.
  • Both spouses' W-2s and any 1099s.
  • Childcare provider name, address and amounts paid.
  • Health coverage forms received.
  • Mortgage interest statement and property tax bill, if you own.
  • Records of estimated tax payments, if anyone is self-employed.
  • Direct deposit details.

Settle these before you sit down

Households lose time when basic facts are unsettled at filing. Talk these through first.

  • Who will claim each child, and does anyone else have a right to?
  • Did anyone in the home change jobs, lose income or start a business?
  • Did your address, name or marital status change?
  • Who paid for childcare, and do you have the provider's details?
  • Did anyone receive unemployment or other government payments?

You do not need perfect answers. Even a rough sketch helps us write an accurate quote. If two adults share a home but are not married, or if parents live apart, mention it in your intake so we can set the return up correctly from the beginning.

Coordinating with your spouse or partner

When two adults share a household, one of them usually holds the folder. Agree who will upload documents, who will answer questions from us, and who will sign. Electronic signing works for each adult from their own phone or computer, so nobody has to wait for the other to get home.

If you both earn income, gather both sets of W-2s before you start the intake. It is the single most common reason a family return stalls for a day or two.

Limits we keep in view

We are a tax preparation firm, not a CPA firm, and our preparers do not represent taxpayers before the IRS. Add-ons are simple: a rental property adds $125 for the first one and $60 for each after that, and a self-employed spouse changes the return to one that starts at $450. Final fees are always in the free quote, alongside e-file and processing fees. See pricing for the details.

Winter Springs families with older children who filed their own returns should tell us, because it can affect what is claimed on yours.

FAQ

Is a family return the same as a joint return?

Not exactly. Family return describes the type of paperwork we prepare for households with dependents, and filing status is decided during your intake.

When is the best month to pay my property tax?

Under Florida law the discount is largest in November at 4 percent and shrinks each month through February. That is a fact about the discount, not advice about your cash flow.

Does homestead lower my income tax?

No. Homestead reduces the taxable value of your home for property tax, and your income tax return is separate.

Can you file if one spouse has a business?

Yes. The business income changes the return to one that starts at $450, and we will explain why in the quote.
